The Bachelor of Arts in Theology is a three-year academic program designed to provide students with a solid foundation in Christ-centered theology, Anglican tradition, and pastoral care. The program equips future church leaders and ministers with the theological knowledge, pastoral skills, and ethical grounding necessary to respond to the social and spiritual challenges of the 21st century in Burundi and the world. It integrates biblical studies, theology, philosophy, social sciences, and practical ministry, ensuring a balanced formation of mind, character, and service.
Program Structure
Year One
The first year introduces students to biblical studies, languages, and general education. Courses include introductions to the Old and New Testaments, Biblical Hebrew and Greek, English, French, Kiswahili, ICT, research methods, philosophy, and citizenship education. This year lays the linguistic, academic, and theological foundations required for theological studies.
Year Two
The second year deepens students’ engagement with Scripture and theology through courses in biblical exegesis, dogmatics, Christian ethics, psychology, sociology, philosophy, and practical theology. Students study prophetic literature, Pauline and pastoral epistles, liturgy, and homiletics, strengthening both analytical skills and ministerial competence.
Year Three
The third year focuses on advanced biblical interpretation, church history, missiology, leadership, and pastoral practice. Students explore hermeneutics, healing ministry, Christian music, apologetics, comparative religion, and the history of the Church in Burundi. The program concludes with a field internship and internship report, enabling students to integrate theory and practice in real ministerial contexts.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are prepared for ordained and lay ministry, further theological studies, and service in church-related and community development contexts, grounded in faith and pastoral responsibility.
